Nobody would believe it if they were told at the beginning of the year that Dublin hurlers would win 4 titles in 2011. Just to remind ourselves the titles are 1. Walsh Cup. 2. National league champions. 3. Leinster minor champions. 4. Leinster u-21 champions. Add to that list the following: All-Ireland senior semi-finalists, All-Ireland minor finalists, All-Ireland u-21 finalists. Needless to say this was our best ever return for one year.
Yes, we may be disappointed that we did not win one of the All-Irelands but both our minors and u-21’s were not expected to do so well at the beginning of the year. The pundits had Wexford, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Galway ahead of us in the u-21 championship. Galway were beaten by 25 points last year in the u-21 final. It is often said that you have to lose one before you win one. Hopefully that will apply next year. Similarly with the minors. Beaten semi-finalists in 2009 and beaten finalists in 2010.
So all in all we had a wonderful year and that it acknowledged by all hurling enthusiasts. Well done to our three teams and thanks for a wonderful year.
Roll on 2012
