Records … there for the breaking

Cormac O’Malley and the boffins over on hurlingstats.com have pointed out to us that the following records are there to be broken by the Dublin Minor and Under 21 hurlers this year.

The Minor Double All Ireland in Football & Hurling has been done 5 times to date:

  • Dublin twice in 1945 & 1954
  • Cork twice in 1969 & 1974
  • Tipperary once in 1934

The Minor and U21 All Ireland Hurling double has been done 10 times, but never by Dublin

  • Kilkenny have achieved it four times; 1975, 1977, 2003 and 2008.
  • Cork three times in 1969, 1970 and 1971
  • Galway twice in 1983 and 2005
  • Tipperary once in 1980

So, can the young hurlers and footballers of Dublin push ahead of Cork and record their third All Ireland Minor Football/Hurling double win since 1954?

And can the Dublin Minor and Under 21 Hurlers register their first double and start an assault on the leaderboard?

Next up is the Under 21 Hurlers who play Antrim in Newry at 4pm this Saturday, August 20th, 2011. All support hugely appreciated, as it would be great to see the Under 21s get the support they need to join the Minors in an All Ireland Final and keep the Statos like Cormac busy into September!
