The Friends of Dublin Hurling was established in 2002 to help project a dynamic image of Dublin hurling. Many events and social functions are organised to enable this to be done. In 2007, the inaugural “Celebration of Dublin Hurling” in the Red Cow Hotel attracted four hundred and fifty people, and there was a full house at the second annual event in the Grand Hotel in Malahide.
One of our main FODH events is the annual golf classic held in May each year in Castlewarden Golf Club. Funds are also raised through membership fees and in 2008 four hundred and fifty members registerd to join the FODH and avail of it’s many offers including special match day travel arrangements.
FODH are pleased to support hurling related activities in the capital. Funding has been made available to county teams for training related activities. In 2008 it supported the Dublin colleges’ teams that won Leinster “A” hurling titles at senior and juvenile level. In addition, a bus was organised to take supporters to Cork to follow the Dubs and a cash incentive was made available for clubs to organise a supporters’ bus to the Leinster semi-final against Wexford in Nowlan Park.
Each year at its annual “Celebration of Dublin Hurling”, FODH recognise achievements in Dublin Hurling. At this event the “Senior Hurler of the Year”, “Young Hurler of the Year” and “Hall of Fame Award“ recipients are honoured. In addition, the work being done by clubs for the development of hurling in Dublin is recognised through the “Club of the Year” awards at senior, intermediate and junior level.
Membership @ €20 per year is now available online and as a Dublin hurling supporter you are invited to join up. Your support of Friends of Dublin Hurling is much appreciated. Further information can be obtained by contacting us.
