Kilmacud Crokes Juvenile Hurling Committee has organised an Autumn Hurling Festival, staging tournaments at U9, U10 and U11 on the first three Sundays in October. Throughout the year, Kilmacud Crokes hurlers from U8 to adult, travel the length and breadth of the country, playing the best teams in the country at every age group. As the hurling season draws to a close, those clubs have been invited back to Kilmacud to participate in its Autumn Festival of Hurling.
The best of the country’s young players will compete on what promises to be three wonderful days of hurling. Over the three weeks, teams from Cork, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Wexford, Antrim, Kildare and Dublin will participate in the festival and will have over 200 players involved each week.
Sunday the 4th October saw the U11 teams take centre stage in Pairc de Burca, Glenalbyn. Conditions were perfect and allowed the teams to showcase all their skills. St. John’s from Belfast, Naas, Na Piarsaigh from Cork, Oranmore from Co. Galway, Naomh Mearnog, Cuala, Ballyboden and Clontarf of Dublin competed Each team played three group matches of 15 minutes a side and all teams then progressed to a final. The Cup Final was contested by Kilmacud Crokes and St John’s of Belfast. It was a thrilling match, played to a very high standard. In the end the home team squeezed through, thanks to a magnificent goal, that was worthy of winning any game at any level. The final score was Kilmacud Crokes 3-3 St John’s 3-2.
Next Sunday, 11th October, it will be the U10 Tournament, which promises to be another great day. The U9 Tournament will bring our Festival to a close on Sunday 18th. If you have an interest in Juvenile Hurling then Pairc de Burca, Glenalbyn is the place to be for the next two Sundays. First matches throw in at 11.30 with the finals scheduled for 3.00pm. Admission is free and it is a great day out for all the family
