Balla Ball will be launched at next Saturday’s Kilmacud Crokes All Ireland Sevens. The game utilises the hurling wall (hence the word “balla”) and aims to develop quality shooting. Three targets are placed on the hurling wall and points are awarded when each target is hit. Players get a minute to compile as many points as they can. The event at Kilmacud Crokes headquarters in Stillorgan on Saturday will run from 2pm to 4pm and is open to all-comers.
The trio behind the idea are Humphrey Kelleher, John Fenton and Liam O’Neill. “There are plenty of hurling walls in clubs and we want to make sure that full advantage is made of them. This is something that can be practised during the winter and can also be done inside a hall with a tennis ball” states Kelleher.
Some of the Dublin hurlers are expected to participate and even the great John Fenton might be persuaded to have a go.
