Brigid’s capture Division 1 Feile na nGael glory
St Brigid’s completed an incredible double when they added the All-Ireland Feile na nGael Division 1 title to the football success of a few back when defeating Galway’s Clarinbridge in Saturday’s final (1-9 to 1-7, after extra-time) at Croke Park.
In doing so they created history by becoming the first club to ever do the Division 1 double in the same year.
In a pulsating decider it took extra-time to eventually separate the sides after the Galway outfit had forced extra-time with a last minute goal in normal time.
The game had finished 1-6 each with Johnny McGuirk getting the Brigid’s goal.
Brigid’s became only the fourth Dublin club to capture the Christy Ring Cup as Division 1 champions – following in the footsteps of Ballyboden St Enda’s (1992), Kilmacud Crokes (2005) and Castleknock (2005).
The Russell Park had on Friday night recorded a 1-7 to 1-3 victory over Limerick’s Patrickswell in their semi-final at Pairc Naomh Uinsionn.
Played in a constant downpour Brigid’s were made battle right to the finish before booking their Croker date.
A brilliant second minute goal from Tiernan McGlynn gave Brigid’s the ideal start against the Shannonsiders and will some fine first half scores from Johnny McGuirk the Dublin 15 under-14s led by 1-4 to 0-2 at half-time.
Despite playing with wind advantage in the second period Brigid’s were rocked back at the three-quarter marker with Patrickswell struck for 1-1 in quick succession and with five minutes to go only a point separated the sides.
However, the expert long-range freetaking of Cian O’Sullivan paved the way for a famous Brigid’s victory withe likes of David Hawkshaw, Jack O’Neill, Kevin Callaghan battling to the finish to secure victory.
The Russell Park lads have topped their group with victories over Wexford’s Nh Eanna (1-13 to 1-3), Waterford’s De La Salle (1-7 to 1-4) and Ballyboden St Enda’s (1-4 to 0-3).

Ballymun’s Setanta captured the Division 6 title by beating Cootehill (Cavan) 1-4 to 1-3 in their final in Parnell Park after accounting for St Perergrine’s 6-1 to 2-2 in their semi.
