Treacy primed for major role
AFTER almost two years of injury torment, Anthony Daly predicts David Treacy is primed to “play a big part” for Dublin this season and is likely to start against Galway this Sunday at Salthill in their Division 1A opener. And the Cuala marksman’s return to fitness from chronic hamstring trouble couldn’t be more timely for Daly, with the news that David O’Callaghan will be out for Dublin’s “first two or three league matches” after recently contracting pneumonia. In addition, Dublin are without Paul Schutte (hamstring) along with long-term cruciate absentees Conal Keaney, Tomás Brady and Stephen Hiney and have doubts...
Dillon drives Barrs to u-21 success
Naomh Fionnbarra 4-8 St Brigids.                      1-6 On a dry cold afternoon in OToole park last Saturday the U21 hurlers of Naomh Fionnbarra matched the feat of the senior hurling team by winning the B championship. A man of the match performance from Ger Dodrill and a fantastic 4-6 from Dublin senior panelist Eamon ( Trollier) Dillon were the highlights of the day. A good Brigids team weakened by the absence of Conor Woodgate and Paul Winters coupled with some wasted chances when they were on top in the first 10...
Keaney: My injury nightmare is almost at an end
CONAL Keaney says he can see “the end of the line” in his bid to return to playing from the horror knee injury which threatened to end his career last year following a motorcycle accident. The Ballyboden St Enda’s ace, speaking to the Herald today, is in the latter stages of his comeback from torn cruciate and lateral knee ligament injuries sustained two days before Dublin’s All-Ireland quarter-final meeting with Limerick last July when his motorcycle collided with a truck, an accident which he has admitted he was lucky to survive. Seven months of extensive and exhaustive rehab later, Keaney...
Daly keeps faith with skipper McCaffrey
Dublin hurling manager Anthony Daly has confirmed that Johnny McCaffrey will once again captain his team in 2012. McCaffrey took over from Stephen Hiney last season and led Dublin to their first league title in 72 years when they beat Kilkenny in the final last May. Daly said he saw no reason to change after last year’s success. The former Clare captain and manager appreciates that matching or even bettering last year’s achievements will be challenging but detects an atmosphere around his camp that suggests they want more. “I can tell from the boys the work ethos is every bit...

St Kieran’s 0-15 Colaiste Eoin 1-8 Monday February 20 2012 IT was only in the final minutes of this exciting semi-final at Dr Cullen Park that defending All-Ireland champions St Kieran’s hit four unanswered points to finally see off Colaiste Eoin.
