Underage & Colleges
Colaiste Eanna 6-9 St Colmcille’s CS 1-12 A second-half hat-trick from Ciaran O’Shea proved decisive at Sancta Maria College yesterday, as Colaiste Eanna were crowned Dublin schools SH “A” champions in emphatic style. Colmcilles were on level terms with 11 minutes gone after three points from wing-forward Paul Docherty cancelled out Eanna efforts from Darragh O’Shea (two) and James Madden. However, the first goal of the game soon arrived courtesy of a brilliantly struck Jamie Desmond penalty, after Eanna corner-forward Madden had been dragged down by Rian Cannon. A brace of scores from Andy Mahon and another from Docherty helped...
Dublin South Cols 3-11 , Good Counsel 1-13 Neil Gorey’s late goal secured Dublin South Colleges a deserved victory at New Ross yesterday. Heavy rain made for slippery conditions, yet both sides still managed to serve up some quality hurling. Little separated the sides through the opening quarter, at the end of which Dublin South Colleges led 0-4 to 0-2, through points from James Roche (three) and Fionn Maguire, while Mark Aylward responded with the home side’s points. Nine minute before the break, a long ball into the Good Counsel goalmouth broke kindly, leaving Maguire with a tap-in. Following this...
Williams and Murphy seal the deal for Dublin North DUBLIN NORTH 2-15 BIRR CS 0-12 Thursday November 10 2011 A TWO-GOAL blast at the start of the second half secured victory for Dublin North over 14-man Birr on the all-weather pitch at Russell Park, Blanchardstown yesterday. It’s a result that is all the more pleasing for the Dubs, considering they were without a number of regulars including All-Ireland minor football finalists Ciaran Kilkenny and Cormac Costello. The efficiency of the northside Dublin students was the decisive factor, with a hard-working Birr team guilty of shooting five poor wides early on...

Galway players celebrate their victory in the All-Ireland hurling minor championship as they beat Dublin 1-21 to 1-12 yesterday at Croke Park yesterday. – (Photograph: Lorraine O’Sullivan/Inpho) PHILIP REID at Croke Park ALL-IRELAND MHC FINAL Galway 1-21 Dublin 1-12: THE CONVEYOR belt at this grade is as slick as ever for Galway, who – immune to reputations and displaying a hunger unfulfilled by all their recent dominance – proved a point of their own over a much-vaunted Dublin with a comprehensive win in the All-Ireland minor hurling championship final at Croke Park yesterday. It was another win, their second in three...
Hard luck on our young minor team who had a difficult day in Croke Park yesterday. They started well and were in control for the first 10 minutes. Unfortunately they were not able to build up a decent lead during that time of dominance. Matty Murphy referred to that in his after the game interview when he said that Dublin could have been up by four points to one at one stage. Unfortunately we had a few bad wides and then Galway got into the game and grew in confidence as the game progressed. It is often said that you...

The Irish Times – Saturday, September 3, 2011 GAVIN CUMMISKEY PEDIGREE VERSUS persistence. The old order is crumbling. Well, maybe. Dublin enter the big house for Sunday’s curtain-raiser with the best side they have produced in a generation. Underage hurling, in general, is in rude health at the moment. Dublin have climbed to the summit despite the continued presence of Kilkenny. We have seen special teams come out of Clare, Waterford and Limerick of late. Cork won’t be down for long. Galway continue to produce excellent minors who are unable to replicate their success at senior level. Mattie Murphy has...

Cormac O’Malley and the boffins over on hurlingstats.com have pointed out to us that the following records are there to be broken by the Dublin Minor and Under 21 hurlers this year. The Minor Double All Ireland in Football & Hurling has been done 5 times to date: Dublin twice in 1945 & 1954 Cork twice in 1969 & 1974 Tipperary once in 1934 The Minor and U21 All Ireland Hurling double has been done 10 times, but never by Dublin Kilkenny have achieved it four times; 1975, 1977, 2003 and 2008. Cork three times in 1969, 1970 and 1971...
GOAL: Cormac Costello scores his 4th goal DUBLIN 6-19 WATERFORD 5-13 Dublin minor hurlers have reached the All-Ireland MHC final for the first time since 1983 when they outclassed Waterford in Sunday’s semi-final at Croke Park. The game was effectively settled in the opening half after Dublin led 4-12 to 0-7 at the interval. It was an advantage they had extended to 21 points, 5-14 to 0-8, six minutes after the restart and with 20 minutes to go were 5-14 to 0-11 clear. However, Dublin feell asleep as the Decies throw caution to the wind over the remainder of the...
