Boden make it five in-a-row
BALLYBODEN ST ENDA’S 3-12 O’TOOLE’S 0-9 Ballyboden St Enda’s senior hurlers continue to rewrite the history book after they captured their fifth Evening Herald Dublin SHC ‘A’ title in emphatic fashion on Sunday afternoon in Parnell Park. Garda were the last club to annex five in-a-row back in the 1920s (1925-29) and after beaten their opponents in this year’s championship by 12 points in the final, 17 points in the semi-final (v Lucan) and 12 in the quarter-final (v Ballinteer St John’s) there is no sign of any slowing up by the Firhouse Road men. They succeeded this year without...
Boden boss on verge of a fifth consecutive Dublin SHC title
THE BODEN boys haven’t even mentioned the five-in-a-row as the countdown continues to Sunday’s Evening Herald Dublin Senior Hurling Championship final against O’Toole’s. The boss-man, Liam Hogan, sets the mood. “Five is the number after four and preceding six. Other than that, it bears no significance for us at all,” insists Liam. Records are for the stats men says Liam, as Boden bid to become the first club in over 80 years to achieve the Dublin hurling five-in-a-row. They have been too long on the road to be wasting their energy pondering history. The prospect of facing the Larriers (Sunday,...

GAA reject new NHL proposal
The 2012 Division 1 NHL will be contested by two groups of six counties after a counter proposal by eight of the top hurling counties failed at Central Council last night. A decision taken at the August Central Council to switch from one division of eight teams to two divisions of six was retained at last night night’s meeting on a 22-14 vote. That decision needed to be rescinded for the eight-team division to be restored or for the CCCC proposal to introduce quarter-finals to the two groups of six. The GAA’s management committee then decided to introduce an amendment to the...
Excellent first half sees Brigid’s storm into semis
ACTION: Daire Plunkett goes for the point ST BRIGID’S 2-14 ST VINCENT’S 2-10 Brigid’s added the scalp of Vinnies to that of the Craobh as they progressed to the semi-finals of the Evening Herald Dublin SHC ‘A’ at Parnell Park on Friday night. Once again it was a strong opening half that put the Russell Park men on the path to victory. Brigids led 2-9 to 0-5 at the interval – Paddy McAvinue, from a free just inside his own half scored their first goal in the 11th minute when the sliotar found it’s way all the way to the...
Boden overcome determined St John’s
BALLYBODEN ST ENDA’S 2-15 BALLINTEER ST JOHN’S 0-9 Champions Ballyboden St Enda’s kept their ‘drive for five’ dream alive when overcoming Ballinteer St John’s in this Evening Herald Dublin SHC ‘A’ quarter-final at Parnell Park on Saturday. While Boden held the upperhand for most of the game it took a Tim Sweeney goal 12 minutes from time to finally shake of St John’s. Sub Sweeney made the perfect impact on his introduction when he whipped the sliotar to the net from a tight angle as St John’s keeper, Louis O’Flaherty, batted out a long point effort from the influential Dean...
Larriers book berth in semi-finals
O’TOOLE’S 0-12 KILMACUD CROKES 1-6 A scoring burst approaching half-time provided O’Toole’s with the winning platform in this Evening Herald Dublin SHC ‘A’ quarter-final at Parnell Park on Friday night. A Ronan Walsh goal in the 11th minute had Crokes in front but the Ayrfield men closed out the half in impressive style with Michael Carton, Andrew Morris and Peadar Carton scoring five unanswered points between them to give their side a 0-9 to 1-3 interval advantage. Crokes moved Dublin senior Ryan O’Dwyer closer to goal in the second half in the hope of unlocking the O’Toole’s defence but in...
GAA ready to propose NHL compromise
THE GAA has called a special meeting of Central Council for next Tuesday to re-examine the format for the 2012 Allianz hurling league. A major controversy erupted after eight top counties united to oppose the changes which were passed by Central Council some weeks ago. The new system involved scrapping the eight-strong Divisions 1 & 2 and replacing them with a 12-team Division 1, featuring six counties in 1A and 1B. Despite being passed by Central Council, the new format ran into immediate trouble when most of the top hurling counties objected and sought a return to the eight-strong Divisions....
