Former Antrim senior hurling captain, Ciarán Barr, has been appointed as the new Dublin u-21 hurling manager. Barr, an All Star in 1988, captained the Antrim team beaten by Tipperary in the 1989 All Ireland final. He subsequently moved to Dublin where he played with the county hurlers and also excelled with St Vincent’s.
The new manager will now begin the task of preparing the Dubs u-21 side for an away fixture against winners of a preliminary group consisting of Westmeath, Meath, Longford, Carlow, Louth, Wicklow and Kildare in the opening round of the Leinster championship on the 27th May. A win in this fixture would pair the Dubs against Wexford in the provincial semi-final.
