Here we are on the 7th of May and at least 5 clubs- Balinteer St Johns, Setanta, Faughs, St Brigids and Oliver Plunkets/Eoghan Rua- are out of the senior hurling championship. Why would players from these clubs continue to train for the Summer which hasn’t even arrived yet ? I am not blaming the Co Board for this problem. Croke Park has promised to give clubs a fair deal but each time they have failed to do so. At this year’s Congress an effort to bring the All-Ireland Finals forward by two weeks failed to get passed. If the powers that be in Croke Park continue to fail to address this problem they should not be surprised if more and more players walk and take up other sports that will guarantee them regular games with full squads all Summer.
