CUALA 3-14 ST JUDE’S 0-13
Teenager Sean Treacy blasted two crucial goals while big brother and county star David weighed in with seven points as Cuala claimed a first Dublin SHC title success since 1994.
The siblings’ 2-8 blast at Parnell Park ultimately separated the south side rivals and secured a fourth title for Cuala while Jude’s have now slumped to agonising back to back final defeats.
The sides were deadlocked at 0-5 apiece after the first third of play but Treacy’s opening goal put Cuala into a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
His second, 12 minutes from time, then put the game beyond Jude’s who finished with 14 men following the 49th minute dismissal of Joe McManus.
Former Kerry player Darragh O’Connell, who has teamed up with Dublin, scored three important points while Colm Cronin bagged the other goal and finished with 1-2 overall.
Aside from the breakthrough success, Cuala’s reward is a Leinster club championship clash with Coolderry of Offaly.
Treacy’s 19th minute goal separated the sides at half-time when Cuala led 1-7 to 0-7 but Jude’s were just coming into their own at that stage.
They reduced their deficit to a single point after the restart with points from former All-Star Danny Sutcliffe and Jessy Kennedy.
That was as good as it got for them, however, with Cronin’s goal arriving shortly after following a pass from Mark Schutte.
Jude’s battled gamely and still trailed by just four with 20 minutes remaining but Cuala finished strong, firing a third goal through Treacy and tacking on insurance points through O’Connell and Cronin.
