Dublin 1-18
Dubs Stars 3-11
New Dublin hurling manager, Anthony Daly, expressed satisfaction with the preformance of his charges in their first outing of 2009 against the Evening Herald / Dublin Bus Dubs Stars in Páirc Bárróg on a chilly New Year’s Day afternoon. He was particularly impressed by the displays of a number of the younger players.
The Dublin side had been in charge for much of the game and were two points up at the break, 0-8 to 0-6. Five minutes into the second period, Dublin’s Peadar Carton scored the first goal of the game and Dublin were seven ponts clear by the 41st minute.
However, Dubs Stars full forward, Dotsie O’ Callaghan, scored his first of three second half goals in the 43rd minute. Three minutes from time, O Callaghan hit the second goal from a free and followed this up with his third goal on the stroke of full time. Paul Ryan scored what most spectator’s thought was the equaliser, but referee Tony Lambe, had the Dubs ahead by a point.
Daly commended the commitment of the players and had a special word of praise for the performance of last year’s minor player, Liam Rushe. “He is still very young, but he showed great potential …” said Daly.
