Castlecomer CS 3-18 Dublin South 0-12
Castlecomer proved too strong for Dublin South in the Leinster colleges’ senior “A” hurling semi-final played in Athy on Saturday. Having started well against a strong breeze, the Dublin side was unable to curb the influence of Kilkenny minor Canice Maher playing at full forward for Castlecomer. He scored 1-10 of his side’s 1-13 first half score in the wind assisted first half. The Kilkenny side led at half time by 1-13 to 0-5.
The “South” resumed the second half with much greater urgency and points from Peter Elliot, Kevin O Loughlin and Eoin Cronin reduced the deficit to seven points with 18 minutes of the game remaining. However, Thomas Breen punished a defensive lapse in the Dubs back-line by scoring a goal in the 44th minute for Castlecomer. A further goal from Martin Hawley ended the Dubs chances of progressing to a final showdown against Good Counsel of Wexford.
