Limerick 1-11 Dublin 0-12
Following victories over Cork and Galway in the two opening rounds of the NHL Division 1, Dublin hurlers lost out narrowly to Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday afternoon. The only goal of the game was scored by Niall Moran early in the second half after Dublin ‘keeper Alan Nolan was dispossessed by David Breen.
Dublin did have chances late on to draw or even win the contest, but frees from Alan McCrabbe and David O’Callaghan were both off target. The sides were level on nine occasions as neither side enjoyed any extended period of dominance. Dublin did rally after conceding the early second half goal and scored four unanswered points from Alan McCrabbe (2), John McCaffrey and Simon Lambert.
With five minutes remaining, an Andrew O’ Shaughnessy pointed free sent the Shannonsiders into a one point lead. Then, McCrabbe (68th min) and O Callaghan (72nd min) missed opportunities to equalise the game. A point from a sideline from Niall Moran ensured a two-point victory for Limerick.
