Dublin 0-15 Clare 0-15
A last minute point from Stephen Hiney saw Dublin get a share of the spoils in the penultimate fixture of the 2009 Allianz NHL Division 1 against Clare in Parnell Park. The “Banner” had the better of the exchanges in the opening half and moved four points clear on two occasions, but the Dubs trailed by 0-10 to 0-8 at the interval. Dublin’s cause was not helped when they lost Tomás Brady to a hamstring injury after seven minutes. Centre back, Ronan Fallon, received a yellow card after twenty minutes.
Appraoching the final quarter of the game, Clare had again opened up a four point lead following points from Niall Gilligan who had been introduced in the first half for “yellow carded” full forward Caimhin Morey. However, two points from David O Callaghan, a pointed free from Alan McCrabbe and a John McCaffrey point from play brought the sides level.
Clare were again edged in front with a point from Patrick Donnellan before Alan McCrabbe placed a clever cross field pass to Stephen Hiney who levelled the scores with a point from 45 metres. Liam Rushe and second half substitute Shane Martin had chances to win the game for the Dubs, but while Clare held onto the draw, they couldn’t hold onto the hope of staying in Division 1.
Dublin now face Kilkenny in the final round of the league in Nowlan Park on the 19th April. The Cats have already booked their place in the league final against Tipperary.
