Dublin 0-18 Laois 1-9
Dublin senior hurlers bounced back from their defeat against Kilkenny when they overcame the challenge of Laois in the Walsh Cup Shield semi-final clash played in Abbeyleix on Sunday. The Dubs were the better side throughout and settled quickly into the game to open up a 0-6 to 0-1 lead in the opening 13 minutes.
Alan McCrabbe, selected at corner forward, but operating out the field opened the scoring with a point after just thirty seconds. Although Laois responded immediately with a point from Dayne Peacock, this was the only occasion during the game that the sides were level.
Dublin lead by 0-10 to 0-5 at half –time as McCrabbe and “Dotsy” O Callaghan caused all sorts of problems for the home defence. The Dubs continued to assert their control of the game in the second half and points from Michael Carton, Johnny McCaffrey, Alan McCrabbe and David O Callaghan stretched the lead to 0-14 to 0-5.
Having been held scoreless for the first twenty minutes of the second half, Dayne Peacock scored his second point from a free for Laois. .A Willie Hyland goal from a 20-metre free threw Laois a lifeline, but further points from Dublin saw them run out convincing winners on a score of 0-18 to 1-9
