Seniors Bow Out of All Ireland SHC
Dublin senior hurlers’ involvement in the 2010 SHC ended with a one point defeat to Antrim in the qualifier game played in Croke Park recently. The despair shown by the players and team management at the end of the game and afterwards is a reflection of the disappointment felt by all involved. A tremendous effort was put in by the players, manager Anthony Daly and his selectors in preparing for the championship games and it was most disappointing to lose out on a quarter-final spot against Cork by the narrowest of margins.
Tough luck on all the players who now return to the business of club hurling and the county championship games. As the curtain comes down on their senior inter-county activity, the players will now focus their attention on club activity.
U-21 Leinster Success
Dublin u-21 hurlers, under the guidance of senior selector Richie Stakelum, captured the Leinster u-21 title by overcoming Wexford in a close encounter in Parnell Park. The result of this game was in doubt right to the closing stages when a goal from Daire Plunkett provided the impetus for the Dubs to power onto victory on a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-15. Dublin will now play Galway in the All Ireland u-21 semi-final on the 22nd August. The arrangements for this game are yet to be announced and the likely venue is Tullamore. FODH will be organising a supporters’ us to this fixture – details to follow.
Minors Reach All-Ireland Semi-final
John Murphy’s minor Dubs recovered from their recent Leinster final defeat to Kilkenny to reach the All Ireland semi-final by defeating Antrim in the quarter-final on a scoreline of 3-13 to 1-11. They now meet Munster champions, Clare, in the semi-final on Sunday, 15th August in Croke Park.
