Well done to our lads last Saturday in Croke Park. It was an impressive performance overall. Donal Burke was outstanding and finished with a tally of 1-16. Conor Burke, Chris Crummey and Rian McBride were exceptional and ran themselves into the ground. Danny Sutcliffe showed flashes of his old self.
However, our season will be judged on next Saturday v Kilkenny. Dublin did very well last year in Nowlan Park and the final result didn’t do justice to Dublin’s performance. In 2018 we had a wonderful performance and a referee’s bad call in the last minute cost us the game. So Dublin have no reason to fear this Kilkenny team. But to defeat the cats all players must turn up. There is no doubt Donal Burke will be man-marked so other players must share the scoring. The referee,Johnny Murphy, is very fussy so we need to be careful as Kilkenny have TJ Reid on the frees- probably the best hurler in Ireland for the past few years. Laois got too many soft frees last Saturday. Manager Mattie Kenny will have a problem picking his team if David Treacy, Paul Ryan, Shane Barrett and Conal Keaney are fit to play. But it is a good problem to have as a strong bench is vital in the modern game.
We wish the lads well.
The game is only on GAAGO so you will have to sign up. See attached.
Our senior camogie team are heading for Clare on Saturday and a win or a draw will guarantee a quarter final place. They lost at home toTipp last Sunday but that game should stand to them. Good luck to them.
There is a feast of sport this weekend. Enjoy it.
