It has been a very difficult few weeks for Dublin hurling. It could have been so different if the seniors had beaten Wexford at the first attempt. After a great performance Dublin failed to put them a way and the draw gave Wexford time to regroup for the replay. Despite not playing as well in Croke Park, Dublin still only lost by three points.
Dublin u-21’s never got out of the blocks against Kilkenny. Eleven of the u-21 team were on the senior panel for the two games against Wexford and there is no doubt that they were still hurting from the loss of the previous Sunday in the replay. The players did not do justice to themselves and we all know that they are a much better team than they showed on the night.
The minors put in a great performance against Wexford in Croke Park and were extremely unlucky not to have won on the day. They travelled to Wexford Park last Saturday for the replay and luck was not on their side and they lost by just one point to a very good Wexford team. There are some outstanding hurlers on this team and they will have better days in the years ahead.
Support the Dubs in Cork
Dublin senior hurlers travel to play Cork on Saturday July 12 at 5.00pm in the All Ireland Qualifier – Round 1. This is a very difficult draw for Dublin. It is important that we support the team in Páirc Uí Caoimh. The Friends of Dublin Hurling are offering to subsidise the cost of travel to Cork for supporters intending to travel. The return journey by bus will cost you only €10. Needless to say we can only do this if we get at least 40 people willing to travel. If there is a big response a second bus will be organised. It is planned to have two pick up points- Connolly Station and the Poitín Stil in Rathcoole. The bus will leave Connolly at 10.00am and be at the Poitin Stil around 10.30am. We should be back in Dublin by 11.00pm.
If you wish to travel send your details to Michael O Grady by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by text to 087-2331983. The deadline is Wednesday July 9th at 3.00pm.
Nowlan Park Bus
Congratulations to Castleknock Hurling and Football Club who won the €500 prize donated by FODH in a draw for clubs who organised buses to Nowlan Park to support our seniors in the drawn game against Wexford. Thanks to all the clubs who supported the Dubs hurlers on that evening. Michael O Grady, Cathaoirleach Cairde Iomána Átha Cliath, is pictured below presenting the cheque for €500 to Damian Whelan, Juvenile Secretary, Castleknock GAA Club.
