Kilkenny 1-23 Dublin 3-15
Dublin hurlers completed their Allianz NHL Division1 programme with an encouraging performance against All Ireland champions Kilkenny in Nowlan Park on Sunday. The Cats needed a late goal and a point from Eoin Larkin and a further point from Ritchie Hogan to secure victory.
Dublin started well and David Treacy opened the scoring with a well taken point in the first minute. A minute later, Kevin Flynn, a late replacement for Alan McCrabbe, finished to to net after good work from David Treacy and David O Callaghan. After twenty minutes, Dublin led by 1-9 to 0-6. However, Kilkenny gained the upperhand for the remainder of the half and went in at the break leading by 0-17 to 1-10.
Henry Shefflin, who scored eight points in the opening half, added three more points in the first 11 minutes of the second period. At the three quarter stage of the game David O Callaghan scored a terrific individual goal. Four minutes later he scored a point from a penalty after Liam Ryan had been fouled by J J Delaney. O Callaghan’s second goal put the Dubs ahead as the game enterd the final stages. The late scores from Larkin and Hogan secured victory for the Cats.
