BALLINTEER ST JOHN’S 2-15 NA FIANNA 0-8
Joe Maher was the scorer-in-chief as Ballinteer St John’s booked their berth in the last eight of the Evening Herald Dublin SHC ‘A’ at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon.
The corner-forward was in brilliant form from deadball and play as his tally of 2-10 was the headline act in an impressive St John’s display.
Playing into the win the southsiders laid the platform for their 13-point victory in the opening half. While Maher showed great marksmanship to judge the angle and range of frees, their defence, marshalled well by the likes of Cormac O’Brien and Jack Gilligan, was the cornerstone of their 0-8 to 0-4 interval lead.
Na Fianna were left to rue a number of wides as they were held scores from the 18th minute of the first half until seven minutes into the second half, this despite wing-forward Ciaran O Fainin securing some great aerial possession in the first half.
Both Maher’s goals came inside the concluding ten minutes – clinically finishing on both occasions as the youthful St John’s finished with a flourish.
