Wexford 1-19 Dublin 1-9
Wexford minor hurlers outclassed Dublin in the Leinster championship when running out winners on a scoreline of 1-19 to 1-9 in Parnell Park on Saturday. From the throw in, the Slaneysiders showed their intent and wing forward Liam Óg McGovern was outstanding. Early points from McGovern and Niall Murphy edged Wexford into a three point lead. Dublin forwards failed to make an impression against the opposition’s solid defence.
A Danny Sutcliffe point in the 21st minute was the only score from play for the Dubs in the first half and three pointed frees from Sean McGrath saw the Dubs trailing on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-4 at the interval.
Wexford continued to set the pace in the second half with a fine score from mid-fielder Diarmuid O Keeffe. A Naomhín Ó Riordáin pass set up Odhrán Ó Maoléidigh for a Dublin goal, but Wexford responded with two pointed frees from Niall Murphy. The Model county secured the win by scoring 1-4 without reply between the 38th and 44th minutes.
Dublin are now away to Laois in the Leinster q-final on the 16th May and the winner of this game will play Kilkenny or Offaly in the semi-final.
