Carlow champions, Mount Leinster Rangers, upset the odds to topple Ballyboden St Enda’s and progress to an AIB Leinster Club SHC final against Wexford’s Oulart-The Ballagh following this semi-final win at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow on Sunday.
Boden led 2-7 to 0-11 at half-time thanks to first half goals from Gavin Corrigan and Conor McCormack but it was the Carlow men who struck for a decisive Eddie Byrne goal with 11 minutes remaining on the clock.
Mount Leinster had got on level terms by the 44th minute, 0-15 to 2-9, before Paul Ryan had a penalty saved by Frank Foley and when Eddie Byrne goaled for the Carlow side his side moved 1-15 to 2-9 in front.
Boden were reduced to 14-men when Gary Maguire was dismissed and from the resulting penalty Denis Murphy took a point leaving Boden with it all to do in the final minutes.
They almost did it too with a Ryan penalty in the second minute of injury-time closing the gap before Niall McMorrow missed a late, late chance which could have ensured the Firhouse Road men snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
