O’TOOLE’S 3-11 BALLYBODEN ST ENDA’S 1-14
The Ballyboden bid to make it a four in-a-row of Evening Herald Dublin SHC A titles got off to a bumpy start when losing this Group 2 round-robin clash against an impressive OToole at St Annes Park on Wednesday night.
The reigning champions came strong towards the finish but had left themselves with too much ground to make up after the Larriers had held the upperhand after a strong start that saw Dublin senior Kevin Flynn claiming 1-2 in the opening quarter and a Peadar Carton goal before the break had OTooles four points to the good at half-time.
OTooles held sway on the restart with a goal from Michael Cunningham strengthening their position as they moved 3-10 to 0-9 clear. The introduction of Paul Ryan soon had the desired effect when he goaled from a 20-metre free and added a point shortly after with scores from Shane Durkin, Conor McCormack and Niall McMorrow cutting into the margin.
But Flynn responded with a point for O’Tooles as the Larriers held strong to get their round-robin programme off to a winning start.
