WALSH CUP: Dublin progressed to a last-four meeting with Wexford on Sunday afternoon after overcoming UCD at Parnell Park last night.
The Dubs opened up an early two-point lead through Conal Keaney and his Ballyboden St Enda’s clubmate Paul Ryan.
The students responded in impressive fashion with Wexford senior Jack Guiney restoring parity through a free and a sublime score on the run from 50 metres.
The visitors took the lead for the first time when Domhnal Fox pointed from distance.
Keaney fired his third point from play to bring the sides level once again at the end of the first quarter.
Ryan’s prowess from placed balls proved UCD’s undoing in the 32nd minute when he fired to the net from 20 metres. At the start of the second-half, Dublin ‘keeper Alan Nolan misjudged a point attempt from Cillian Buckley, stepping over the line as he caught the ball.
However, any momentum gained from that good fortune was immediately stalled as William Egan received a second booking after a crude challenge on Keaney.
The Dubs took full advantage and Ryan found the net from an acute angle after a pass by substitute Mark Schutte.
The remainder proved scrappy with the students earning a level of consolation as substitute David Higgins swept home.
