SHANE Ryan has been named on the bench for Dublin’s NHL opener with Waterford in Walsh Park this Sunday (2.30).
The former football ace had started each of Dublin’s three Walsh Cup games but the return of a cluster of players from third level duty has forced Ryan and six others who started last Sunday’s defeat by Galway onto the bench.
In total, there are seven changes from the team which went down by seven points to John McIntyre’s men in Parnell Park.
Tomás Brady and Óisín Gough both come into the full-back line, while Peter Kelly, Liam Rushe and Shane Durkin make up an all-new half-forward unit.
David Treacy — who came off the bench for DIT in their Fitzgibbon Cup victory over UCD on Tuesday — replaces Peadar Carton at corner- forward, though David O’Callaghan has been named on the bench.
The St Mark’s attacker and UCD student — who has been nominated for All Star awards in the last two years — sat out Tuesday’s match as he nurses a niggle but is expected to be fit enough to play some part on Sunday.
