Evening Herald AHL Division 2
St Jude’s 2-8 Naomh Fionbarra 0-13
New Dublin hurling selector, Ciarán Hetherton, was an interested spectator at the AHL Div 2 final in Balgriffin where, in the dreadful weather conditions, St Jude’s secured Div 1 status with a narrow one point victory over N. Fionbarra.
This was a close encounter to the end and goals for the Tymon team from Ronan Joyce and John Ryan proved to be the important scores on the night. With ten minutes remaining, the Cabra side was four points in arrears, but three unanswered points from Stephen Costello reduced Jude’s lead to a single point.
In the final minute of the game, a long range free from Fionnbarra goalkeeper, Lar Sweetman, was dealt with by the Jude’s defence. The final whistle sounded and the silverware was being claimed by Jude’s captain, John Ryan.
Scorers: St Judes: R Joyce 1-3, J Ryan 1-1, N Mangan 0-4 (4f).
N Fionnbarra: S Costello 0-9(7f), K Turner 0-2, T Lynch 0-1, I McDonald 0-1
