Anthony Daly and Conal Keaney on Suicide or Survive’s campaign
Dublin hurling manager Anthony Daly, Dublin footballer Michael Fitzsimons and Dublin Hurler Conal Keaney talk about the S.O.S campaign and the stigma associated with mental health. Emotions over Keaney injury left us flat — Daly
Anthony Daly has acknowledged that the shock of Conal Keaney’s accident on Friday may have contributed to what he felt was a “heavy legged” second-half performance against Limerick on Sunday. As Dublin basked in the glory of a first All-Ireland semi-final appearance in 63 years, Daly reflected on a difficult few days for the squad as they came to terms with the loss of Keaney in such circumstances so close to the game. Describing a Friday night squad meeting as “emotional” and set in “silence” as the news was digested, he figured that the impact of everything that had gone on...
Conal Keaney: Luck was on my side in accident
CONAL KEANEY has revealed how lucky he was to only escape with knee and ankle injuries from his motorbike accident last Friday morning on his way to work. Speaking exclusively to The Irish Examiner, the Ballyboden St Enda’s talisman expressed his frustration at missing out on Sunday’s All-Ireland quarter-final win over Limerick as well as the August 14 semi-final against Tipperary, as a result of his injuries. However, weighing up the pros and cons of what happened he understands things could have been a lot worse. “I know I was lucky,” admitted Keaney. “Over the weekend there were a couple...
Dublin must step up to mark in Keaney’s absence
CONAL KEANEY’S motorcycle accident yesterday morning has cast a cloud over Dublin’s attempts to reach an All-Ireland semi-final for the first time since 1948. Keaney sustained a fractured ankle and tore his cruciate knee ligament when hit by a van. As a result, Anthony Daly will not announce a team until tomorrow. This is it for Dublin. The league success will lose its lustre if they cannot beat the Division Two champions. Many of their Leinster final excuses are valid. They were always going to struggle without Ryan O’Dwyer’s ball-winning ability at half forward while the rejigging of the defence...
Double injury in crash horror rules out Keaney
CONAL KEANEY was enduring a double injury agony last night when it emerged that the Dublin hurling superstar had suffered a torn cruciate ligament, as well as a broken ankle, in a motorbike accident yesterday. It was initially believed Keaney had escaped with just a bad ankle injury when he was involved in an accident while driving his bike to work in Blessington yesterday morning. But more detailed scans last night confirmed that the unfortunate Ballyboden St Enda’s star has also suffered a torn cruciate in his opposite knee and now looks likely to need surgery on both of his...
Conal Keaney suffers leg injury in motorbike accident
Reports are emerging that Dublin hurler Conal Keaney has suffered a leg injury after a motorcycle accident this morning. According to reports on gaa.ie, the Ballyboden St Enda’s clubman was travelling to work on a motorbike and was accidentally struck by a van. As a consequence, Keaney will miss Sunday’s All-Ireland quarter-final against Limerick in Semple Stadium. FODH wishes Conal a speedy recovery from this unfortunate accident.        ...

Rushe leads hurlers to victory over Galway
DUBLIN 0-19 GALWAY 2-7 Dublin’s ascent towards hurling’s summit continued with this confident six point victory over Galway in Saturday evening’s Leinster SHC semi-final at O’Connor Park, Tullamore. In the build up to the game the message from the Dublin camp was simple – “We need to take a big scalp” and that’s précised what they did in resounding fashion as they outhurled the Tribesmen for the majority of this duel. The loss of Tomás Brady (subbed in the 11th minute), when he injured his ‘good’ knee, did not knock Dublin off their stride – it was an early double...
Dublin Hurler, Conal Keaney
‘He didn’t just want to hurl for Dublin, he wanted to win for Dublin’
Midway through the second half of the recent Leinster hurling quarter-final in Croke Park, Conal Keaney picked up possession out near the Hogan Stand sideline and the antennae of more than one Offaly player were raised instantly. They had their moment. Eanna Murphy, a late replacement, was in first, driving hard with a shoulder that momentarily destabilised the Dublin man. Others followed. It was clear, as it had been earlier in the game, that Offaly players had Keaney on their mind for some extra physical relish. Maybe it wasn’t pre-planned, but there were mental notes made in every corner of...

Keaney challenges Dublin hurlers
Conal Keaney has challenged the Dublin hurlers to forget about their league triumph and make a significant impact in this year’s All-Ireland Hurling Championship. Dublin begin their campaign in the Leinster Hurling Championship on Sunday when they play Offaly at Croke Park Keaney, speaking at the launch of the Musgrave 10th Annual Triathlon this morning, believes the Dubs are fully prepared to make a tilt at lifting the Liam McCarthy Cup this September. Dublin recorded their first Allianz Hurling League success since 1939 this year and while Keaney is happy with the feat, he has stressed that it will soon...
Dublin Hurling Team before NHL Final
Hurlers can be inspiring catalyst
A Cian Murphy Article. Anthony Daly and his brilliant league final winning hurlers have been paid arguably the ultimate possible compliment – being compared to the 1974 football breakthrough of Kevin Heffernan’s Dublin footballers. Senior Dublin GAA officials believe Daly has the power to become the new Kevin Heffernan of Dublin GAA and be an inspiring icon for the game in the city. And Dublin chief executive John Costello says that the landmark league final victory by Daly’s hurlers has the potential to emulate the feat of the Dublin footballers who triumphed under Heffo 37 years ago and rescued football...
