The GAA has revealed why we’ll have no live TV coverage of Kilkenny V Dublin Pt II.
Saturday’s Leinster SHC semi-final replay would be sure to attract a huge television audience but can’t be broadcast as RTE is already committed to airing the Ulster SFC semi-final between Cavan and Monaghan at the same time:
“What happens is that we take the fixtures chosen by our broadcast partners, RTE and TV3, after the draws have been made and go to the provinces and they schedule fixtures accordingly,” head of games administration Feargal McGill explains in The Irish Times.
“Saturdays aren’t as popular with the majority of supporters – or with provincial councils because the gate receipts are correspondingly lower and so we agree compensation for those games fixed for Saturday.
“We can’t at short notice tell provinces their fixtures aren’t going to be televised and therefore not compensated just because an unexpected replay has cropped up.
“There are some Saturdays which have no games scheduled and we would normally show flexibility on those, but this weekend isn’t one of those.” –
