Dublin hurling captain Stephen Hiney has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.
A scan last night revealed the damage sustained when the defender turned awkwardly in Dublin‘s convincing Allianz Hurling League win over Wexford on Sunday.
Hiney , who was stretchered off after 46 minutes of the match, is the latest in a list of serious injuries that Anthony Daly’s squad have suffered over the last 12 months.
David Treacy and Shane Stapleton both suffered similar injuries late last season, while Alan McCrabbe, an All Star in 2009, is recovering from surgery to repair cartilage in his hip, a problem which was described as career-threatening earlier in the year.
The loss of Hiney is a huge blow to Dublin, who lead Division 1 after three wins and a draw
