Fingal’s senior hurlers’ preparation has gone well despite defeats to DCU (by 7points) and Armagh (by 4 points) in the Keogh Cup/Shield competitions. These games, combined with challenge games against Louth and St. Brigids, have given Fingal an opportunity to try out new players and experiment with team formation.
The NHL campaign starts on Sunday week – 21st, against Wicklow in Swords. Wicklow, who were relegated from Div 3A in 2009, will be looking to kick start their promotion drive and will provide a stiff opening test for Fingal. Having lost out on the league final on score difference last year Fingal will be trying to go one better this year and a good start is vital.
There is a great buzz about the squad this year as players also try to emulate our two stalwarts of 2008 and 2009, David Byrne (Naomh Mearnog) and Sean O’Sullivan(St. Brigids), who have progressed to Anthony Daly’s Walsh Cup squad this year. Fingal also has six players trialling with the county under-21’s.
