DUBLIN HURLING TEAM NEWS 2013
Manager Daly makes changes to panel
Dublin hurling manager Anthony Daly has announced a new-look panel for the 2013 season, cutting four players from last year in a shake-up that has seen a number of young players drafted in for the new campaign. Peadar Carton, Daire Plunkett, Shane Stapleton and Conor Clinton have all been informed that their services aren’t required as Daly looks to make up for his side’s disappointing performances in 2012.
Carton was an established member of the panel, having made his debut against Laois in 2005, while Plunkett, Stapleton and Clinton were all relative new-comers. Daly has freshened things up by adding a number of new faces to his panel, with Cian O’Callaghan, Colm Cronin and Seán McClelland amongst those given the chance to impress by the Clare native.
It has been reported, however, that Cormac Costello and Eric Lowndes, stars of the Dublin minor team that lost the All-Ireland final replay to Tipperary in September, turned down an invitation to link up with the senior squad, preferring instead to focus solely on attempting to make a breakthrough with Jim Gavin’s footballers.
Boland and Fanning – new managers
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that former Dublin minor manager Shay Boland will make the step-up to take charge of the county’s U21 hurlers in 2013. Boland led the minors to All-Ireland finals in each of the last two seasons – they lost to Galway and Tipperary in 2011 and 2012 respectively – while delivering Leinster titles along the way
Na Fianna’s Pat Fanning is the new minor manager for 2013. He has had much success as a manager at underage level in the club and has guided the Dublin North colleges’ juvenile hurling team to a number of Leinster “A” titles.
We wish the hurling management teams well for 2013.
