FAUGHS 1-12 ST JUDE’S 0-10
There is so substitute for experience they say! Former Dublin hurler, Conor McCann, showed all his experience to grab the only goal of the game as Faughs progressed in their Evening Herald Dublin SHC ‘A’ at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon.
McCann’s 28th minute goal following a good fetch from John Kelly was the decisive score of the game when he used his strength to generate a bit of space before cracking an angled drive to the Jude’s net past Dublin U21 keeper of this summer, Ger McManus, to help his side to a 1-5 to 0-6 interval lead.
Points on the restart from Mikey Ryan (free) and Kelly extended Faughs advantage and despite Jude’s best efforts Faughs were able to keep them just at arm’s length for the remainder of the game.
This clash of southside neighbours had opened in encouraging fashion for Jude’s with Dublin U21 Danny Sutcliffe scoring a fine individual point in the opening minute as well as setting up John Ryan for another as Jude’s led 0-2 to 0-1 after four minutes.
The side practically traded score for score – with Brian Dillon hitting one of the scores of the game from the stand side midway through the half – until McCann’s goal provided the perfect half-time fillip for Faughs who advance to face Lucan Sarsfields in the last-eight.
