Dublin North Colleges’ senior hurlers take on current All Ireland SH champions, St Kieran’s College, Kilkenny in the q-final of the Leinster Colleges’ SH”A” championship on Saturday. The “North” eliminated South Dublin in the qualifier round to set up this clash with the Kilkenny colleges’ kingpins
There is no shortage of experience among the North Dublin players. Three of last year’s Dublin minor championship side, Ciaran Kilkenny, Cormac Costello and Seanie McClelland will certainly put it up to the Cats. In addition to Costello and McClelland, a number of the current Dublin minor squad will feature – Cian Boland, Gavin Burke, Eoin Howard, Conor McHugh and Paul Winters, AJ Murphy, another minor prospect in the year ahead will miss the tie due to injury.
The Dubs have prepared well under the watchful eye of manager Anton O Cléirigh and his selectors Eoin McCraith, David Needham and Cian Waldron and they will not lack endeavour as they attempt to end St Kieran’s interest in this year’s championship. Throw in is at 2pm in Ratheniska Pitch (near Portlaoise).
In what is a very busy weekend for colleges’ hurling in Dublin, Col Eoin travel to the Carlow HC Ground to take on Castlecomer CS in the second q-final at 2pm. Meanwhile, Col Eanna play St Joseph’s Rochfortbridge in the Leinster “B” hurling final in Newbridge at 1pm
FODH wishes all three teams the very best in their respective encounters.
