St Jude’s reversed the outcome of this year’s SHC ‘A’ final when they defeated Kilmacud Crokes 1-13 to 0-13 in Sunday’s AHL1 final at O’Toole Park.
Crokes got off to a poor start when Bill O’Carroll was red-carded in the opening minute and Jude’s were not long in taking advantage of the extra man.
The only goal of the duel came in the 25th minute from John Ryan as the Tymon North lads led 1-6 to 0-8 at the interval.
They had begun the game in an assured fashion as three early frees from Fionn O Riain Broin, who finished with seven points in total, and a Ronan Joyce point from play gave them a 0-4 to 0-1 advantage.
However, the accuracy of Ryan O’Dwyer was keeping Crokes very much in contact and they had edged in front before Ryan’s goal saw Jude’s regain the lead.
Crokes, who fielded without Sean McGrath, Rory O’Carroll, Cian Mac Gabhann and Caolan Conway, levelled matters on the restart with a Barry Mulligan point but Jude’s responded well with Danny Sutcliffe scoring the first of his three points and further points from Ryan, Sutcliffe and O Riain Broin (free) had their side four points to the good.
While Crokes kept going to the finish the were met with stiff resistance by the Jude’s defence as the Tymon North side went on to victory.
