KILMACUD CROKES 1-16 ST BRIGID’S 0-15
The accuracy of Kevin O’Loughlin was the deciding issue in this well-contested Evening Herald Dublin SHC ‘A’ quarter-final at Parnell Park on Saturday afternoon.
Dublin under-21 of this term, O’Loughlin, got the opening score of the game inside 15 seconds and throughout his ability to find space and fire over, off left or right, helped Crokes into the last four.
His most crucial score of the afternoon arrived in the 53rd minute when he fielded Hugh Gannon’s delivery into the danger area before cleverly disguising his intent to shoot low to Alan Nolan’s left for the only goal of the tie and make it 1-13 to 0-12.
The goal had threatened six minutes earlier but Nolan was quick off his line to smother Ross O’Carroll’s effort.
The goal could not have come at a better time for Crokes as Brigid’s had hit two points in a row – a Paddy McAvinue free and the impressive Daire Plunkett’s four of the game – to leave the minimum in it, 0-13 to 0-12, heading down the home straight.
Brigid’s came close to goaling in the 55th minute but Richard O’Keeffe’s overhead flick was scrambled off the line before McAvinue fired over the bar.
The opening half had been a very even affair with three excellent first half points from Plunkett inspiring Brigid’s while the accuracy of O’Loughlin and some sterling defensive play from his brother Rob had Crokes in front 0-8 to 0-6 at the interval.
