What an eventful few days. On a beautiful sunny Thursday morning we welcomed over 120 hurling, camogie and handball teams to Dublin. They stayed with their host clubs for the next two days. At 1pm they played their host club in the first competitive game. Then they headed for Croke Park to prepare for the parade down O’Connell St. Over 20,000 watched as 164 teams paraded down the main street of the capital city. Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh introduced all the teams as they passed the review stand in the middle of the street. Teams sang and danced as they passed and they really enjoyed the experience. Each team had its banner and the pride in their club was to be seen in their eyes. Where else would you see so many teams parading down the main street of the capital city.
Friday morning saw a return to heavy rain. All teams had to play two games in very difficult conditions. Well done to the clubs who hosted these games as they were busy preparing food and drink for the teams and their supporters. Parents came on board and helped out in every way possible to make their visitors welcome. Friendships for life have been made.
Saturday was a return to beautiful weather and the finals in Croke Park and Parnell Park. Saturday also saw teams preparing to return home but promising their hosts they would be back and inviting them to come and visit them soon.
Congratulations and thanks to all clubs, club co-ordinators, parents, team members and the organising Féile committee for a wonderful experience.
