EXPERIENCED defender Ronan Fallon has quit the Dublinsenior hurling panel.
The St Vincent’s clubman had grown increasingly frustrated by his failure to break into Anthony Daly‘s championship line-up and informed the manager of his decision on Monday.
Daly introduced five substitutes during Sunday’s Leinster SHCquarter-final victory against Laois but Fallon wasn’t one of them.
Three of the subs used by Daly were attack-minded but Fallonwas still overlooked when defenders Tomas Brady and Oisin Gough were withdrawn late in the game.
It has been confirmed by Dublin insiders that Daly and Fallon spoke by telephone on Monday and that there is no animosity between the pair.
Fallon expressed his disappointment about not getting a run against Laois and he will not be involved in Dublin’s Leinstersemi-final clash with Kilkenny on Sunday week.
The only change from the team that lined out against Limerickin the final round of the NHL for the Laois championship outing was the return of Brady at full-back, with Fallon losing out.
Fallon had featured in challenge matches prior to the Laois game but had to settle for a place on the bench when Daly named his team for the Nowlan Park tie.
Fallon suffered a crushing blow in April 2009 when he sustained a broken metatarsal against Kilkenny in the NHL. The injury ruled him out of Dublin’s entire Leinster Championship campaign and while he returned to fitness for the All-Ireland quarter-final against Limerick, he was an unused substitute.
