St John’s capture B title

BALLINTEER ST JOHN’S 1-11 NA FIANNA 0-13
Tús maith leath na hoibre – A good start is half the battle! Ballinteer St John’s captured the Evening Herald Dublin SHC ‘B’ title with a hard earned victory in Sunday’s exciting decider at O’Toole Park.
St John’s were glad of their scoring blitz in the early minutes as a Gavin Byrne goal, following a Fergal Chambers pass, helped them to a 1-4 to 0-0 lead inside just eight minutes.
However, Na Fianna battled back with Tomás Brady to the fore and by the interval they had cut the deficit to 1-7 to 0-8.
The St Mobhi Road men were level within six minutes of the restart following two Brady frees but a monster point from Fionán Clabby lifted St John’s and two points from the influential Joey Maher pushed Ballinteer three points clear.
Na Fianna responded again with scores from Brady and Nigel O’Hara but St John’s hung on. Both teams will enter the 2011 Dublin SHC ‘A’ competition.
